By focusing on their racing heritage, the developers at Pinarello have made the F5 to function as a dream racing bike for road bike enthusiasts without needing a sponsorship contract to be able to afford one. Using the Toray T700 UD carbon fiber, the carbon experts have given the F5 a carbon layup that enhances the responsiveness of the ride while incorporating a noticeable amount of vertical compliance. You won’t be rattled to death on rough roads with the F5.
Sticking with the much lauded asymmetric frame design, the F5 allows for exceptional power transfer thanks to the special asymmetric layup the drivetrain side receives on the seat and chain stays. You can also thank that oversized down tube for providing the essential backbone required to harness all the power you are pushing through the pedals.
As with the Dogma F, the F-series frames all include aerodynamic design cues to ensure you're never working harder against the wind than absolutely necessary. The classic Pinarello TICR integrated cable routing keeps the look neat and the performance high. They also sculpted the frame tubes to have limited drag with maximum rigidity and responsiveness. The down tube looks very familiar to the Dogma F with the bottle cage area shaped to hide the cage and bottle from the wind. The seat post has been borrowed from the Dogma F, which has such a sleek shape as to be nearly invisible!
What’s also nice about the Pinarello F-series frames is that thanks to Pinarello’s Think 2 cable routing design options, this frame can accommodate both electric and mechanical groupsets from all main manufacturers. That’s something where the F5 has the advantage over the premium Dogma F, which only accepts electric groupsets. Another highlight of the F-series frame design is that they can accommodate tires up to 30mm wide.
The Pinarello F5 represents the best of both worlds with a high end design and use of materials with a much more affordable price point. Available in nine sizes, the Pinarello F5 frame weighs in around 995 grams, making it among the lightest entry level bikes on the market.
